ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET; MONDAY 22ND JANUARY, 2024.
TEXT: 3 JOHN 1: 1 - 8.
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: CARE FOR STRANGERS.
Yesterday we heard that John wrote to this woman who helped him in Ephesus. He expressed his joy at how she walks in the truth of God's Word. In today's study, he explained how he prayed for Gaius that he should walk in truth (verse 3).
This is a good testimony that should be found in true believers. John said, "there is nothing that makes me happier than to hear that my children are following the truth... and care for strangers" (verse 4, 5). It is good for the followers of Christ to follow the behavior of Gaius to take care of strangers in order to get blessings from God.
Let's note that Abraham took care of strangers without knowing that they are angels down from heaven (Genesis 18: 1 - 33). Brethren, accepting and caring for others is very important because it is one of things that the Word of God teaches us. Let's ask the Lord to give us the grace to receive guests in our homes as Abraham and Sarah did, and the Lord blessed them with Isaac.
It is good to receive guests, and make sure that we are generous to them, that is, to serve them the way Abraham did. Unfortunately, some believers, even those who profess to serve God, are very STINGY and stinginess often prevents them from receiving guests in their homes.
They use false excuses to avoid taking care of or accepting strangers.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: STINGINESS will prevent blessings.
PRAYER: O Lord God, help me to see the value and benefit of accepting strangers and bless the name of Your Son Jesus, I am begging, Amen.
