ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET 1ST DECEMBER, 2023
TEXT: JOHN 9: 35 - 41
HAPPY NEW MONTH
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS.
Some days ago, we heard how Jesus opened the eyes of one born blind. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were jealous of him, so they urged the healed man to say Jesus was a sinner. Because they could not succeed, they expelled him (vs. 34).
In today's reading, Jesus introduces Himself to the one He healed as "the Son of Man" (vs. 35), the Messiah. The Jews say that Moses is the only man of God. The blind man assured them that he did not know Jesus' sin.
The truth of the matter is, "I used to be blind, but now I can see" (vs. 25). That is, he turned their attention to the miracle Jesus performed. In short, he tells them that if you say God does not listen to the sinner, it is left for you.
The blind man said this because of Jesus' kindness and the introduction of the question, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" (vs. 35). He says, He came to earth to make the blind see and those seeing to be blind (vs. 39).
That is, the way people think about Christ, shows how much they care about Him. Those who glorify themselves in holiness, and despise not the light, are blind in the Spirit, because all men have sinned (Rom. 3: 9 - 18). But all who see God's grace through the Lord Jesus Christ see it clearly.
Let us humble ourselves before God and He will enable us to see clearly.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: In Jesus there is light.
PRAYER: Lord God, open my spiritual eyes, that I may see Your wonderful works in the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
JOHN 9: 35 - 41 (MSG).
JOHN 9:35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and went and found him. He asked him, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
JOHN 9:36 The man said, "Point him out to me, sir, so that I can believe in him."
JOHN 9:37 Jesus said, "You're looking right at him. Don't you recognize my voice?"
JOHN 9:38 "Master, I believe," the man said, and worshiped him.
JOHN 9:39 Jesus then said, "I came into the world to bring everything into the clear light of day, making all the distinctions clear, so that those who have never seen will see, and those who have made a great pretense of seeing will be exposed as blind."
JOHN 9:40 Some Pharisees overheard him and said, "Does that mean you're calling us blind?"
JOHN 9:41 Jesus said, "If you were really blind, you would be blameless, but since you claim to see everything so well, you're accountable for every fault and failure.
