ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET; MONDAY 13TH NOVEMBER, 2023.
TEXT: JOHN 7: 40 - 52.
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: ARGUMENT BRINGS DIVISION.
When the people heard what Jesus was saying, many of them became confused. This is because some who heard Him speak about His miracles believe that He was a prophet. For no one can do these things except He who comes from heaven from the presence of God (John 3: 2).
But those who do not understand the power of God have their own ideas, like Nathanael that nothing good can come out of Nazareth (John 1:46). Following this, there is great ignorance among the people because the enemy has blinded them.
Differences of opinion confused leaders who wanted to arrest and destroy Jesus, but could not because their minds were divided. It is a well-known fact that today in Nigeria, the followers of Christ have many who do not love them.
These enemies are always on the lookout plotting against believers in different ways and times. Fortunately, their schemes often unfold before they are fully hatched. This is the power of God. Brethren, the enemies of the believers do not succeed because their intentions are contrary to the plan of the Lord.
They fail to recognize that no one can thwart God's purpose. It will be of great benefit to us if we continue to pray and rely on God.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: What will I look for in my life?
PRAYER: Lord God, I beseech You, help me to do what pleases You in the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
JOHN 7: 40 - 52 (GOOD NEWS).
40 Some of the people in the crowd heard him say this and said, “This man is really the Prophet!”
41 Others said, “He is the Messiah!”But others said, “The Messiah will not come from Galilee!
42 The scripture says that the Messiah will be a descendant of King David and will be born in Bethlehem, the town where David lived.”
43 So there was a division in the crowd because of Jesus.
44 Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.
45 When the guards went back, the chief priests and Pharisees asked them, “Why did you not bring him?”
46 The guards answered, “Nobody has ever talked like this man!”
47 “Did he fool you, too?” the Pharisees asked them.
48 “Have you ever known one of the authorities or one Pharisee to believe in him?
49 This crowd does not know the Law of Moses, so they are under God's curse!”
50 One of the Pharisees there was Nicodemus, the man who had gone to see Jesus before. He said to the others,
51 “According to our Law we cannot condemn anyone before hearing him and finding out what he has done.”
52 “Well,” they answered, “are you also from Galilee? Study the Scriptures and you will learn that no prophet ever comes from Galilee.”
