TEXT: JOHN 4: 16 - 26.
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: THE BLESSING OF THE SPIRIT BRINGS JOY.
On His way to Galilee, Jesus goes to Samaria and asks a woman for a drink. The woman is surprised that Jesus did not detest her a Samaritan woman. This allowed Jesus to tell her many things she never knew, He took time to deal with her slowly until she repented, had her sins forgiven, and her needs were met.
Brethren, whenever the Lord gives us an opportunity to to preach, let us not give up. The well of living water that Jesus spoke of is the Holy Spirit who gives blessings and helps us to enjoy life. What Jesus said shows that everyone can drink water from the well if he wishes, and he will never feel thirty again. But anyone who drinks from Jacob's well will feel thirty again.
That is, he who has the Spirit is blessed, he does not need the desires of the body because they do not satisfy the human spirit, but the physical. Jesus' words to this woman led her to conclusion that Jesus was a prophet. The woman could understand this by the words Jesus used. The words brought relief to her.
In the same way, as followers of Christ, our words must bring changes in the lives of others so that they can have the light that Jesus spoke to us about. Sadly, today there are many followers who refuse to shine so that the name of the Lord may be glorified.
They enjoy using very unpleasant words. Brothers and sisters, it would be nice if we could reconsider and do things that are pleasing to the Lord.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Are you shining?
PRAYER: Lord God, I beseech You, help me to understand Your works more fully so that I may be a light for Your name to be glorified in Jesus' name, Amen.
JOHN 4: 16 - 26 (NLT).
[16] “Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her.
[17] “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied.
Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband
[18] for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!”
[19] “Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet.
[20] So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?”
[21] Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.
[22] You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews.
[23] But the time is comingindeed it’s here nowwhen true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.
[24] For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
[25] The woman said, “I know the Messiah is comingthe one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
[26] Then Jesus told her, “I Am the Messiah!”
