ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET MONDAY 7TH AUGUST, 2023
TEXT: 1 KINGS 8: 54-61
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: THE LORD GOD DOES NOT CHANGE.
Today in our reading, King Solomon prayed to the Lord God on his knees, and arms stretched up to heaven. Should this not be our role model? This is fine, if we are healthy and strong, we should worship Him because it shows the kind of humility we have to the greatness of God revealed to the world.
In the prayer, Solomon praises the faithful God, whose words and deeds do not fail to fulfills His purpose (Isa. 55:11). For example, all the good works that the Lord promised to give to the children of Israel, He fulfilled all (Josh. 21:45) because He is not a human being who would hardly keep his promises (Num. 23:19).
The Lord promises to be with all His people if they follow Him, keep His commandments, and obey Him and He will hear their prayers and satisfy their needs. Sadly, though, some of us do not understand the magnitude of God's promises we do not keep our promises. We should not be greedy for the blessings of God without obeying Him.
What the Lord loves most from us is obedience. This was evident when Samuel said to King Saul, "It is better to obey than to give offering of sheep" (1 Sam. 15:22). Therefore, let us be obedient and submissive to the Word of God, taking note of the kind of life we lead. And only in this way we will please the Lord, and He will bless us. Let nothing prevent us from doing so?
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: God owns everything.
PRAYER: Lord God, I beseech You, fill me with Your wisdom in the name of Jesus, Amen.
1 Kings 8: 54-61 (AMP).
54 When Solomon finished offering all this prayer and supplication to the Lord, he arose from before the Lord’s altar, where he had knelt with hands stretched toward heaven.
55 And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,
56 Blessed be the Lord, Who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all His good promise which He promised through Moses His servant.
57 May the Lord our God be with us as He was with our fathers; may He not leave us or forsake us,
58 That He may incline our hearts to Him, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His precepts which He commanded our fathers.
59 Let these my words, with which I have made supplication before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that He may maintain the cause and right of His servant and of His people Israel as each day requires,
60 That all the earth’s people may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other.
61 Let your hearts therefore be blameless and wholly true to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as today.
