ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET THURSDAY 3RD AUGUST, 2023
TEXT: 1 KINGS 4: 29-34
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: GOD'S GIFTS AND BLESSINGS ARE GREAT.
Yesterday in our study, King Solomon made a difficult decision that was brought to him. The people were shocked, and this is what happened every time a person does something unexpected, he or she will be applauded. Hearing of the great wisdom of Solomon, people applauded his wisdom, and his story spread far and wide, so people came to hear (vs. 34).
If we notice, he is not the one praised, but it is God who gave him the wisdom. In addition to wisdom, God gave him other gifts that he did not even ask Him, namely; understanding and knowledge (vs. 29). These helped Solomon to execute the judgment we heard, which surprised everyone (1 Kgs.3: 10-13).
In addition to wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, the Lord provided Solomon with the gift of writing the books of: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Songs of Solomon. These books are full of words of wisdom and teachings on how to improve one's life. So, it is very important that we study them. It is unfortunate today that most people, especially young people, do not study these books and therefore, live unworthy lives. A life that does not glorify God because they do not see the greatness of His gift to them. This is incorrect.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: God is omnipotent.
PRAYER: Lord God, I beseech You, fill me with Your wisdom in the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
1 Kings 4:29-34 (KJV).
29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
30 And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
31 For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.
32 And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
33 And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.
34 And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
