ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET WEDNESDAY 2ND AUGUST, 2023
TEXT: 1 KINGS 3: 16-22
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: TRUE WISDOM COMES ONLY FROM GOD.
There are many stories of wise men in the Bible. One of them was Abigail. Her wisdom saved the life of her husband - Nabal, from the wrath of David (1 Sam. 25: 23-35). Apart from Abigail, there are many others, such as King Solomon, only a few are mentioned in the Bible.
To show the kind of wisdom God has given him, in our reading today, he was given a difficult case to pass judgment on. Even our leaders today are often faced with such complex issues. But not all of them have the wisdom of God, as Solomon did when he gave judgment to the people. He reveals the secrets of a violent woman without fear or hiding anything. Unfortunately, today our kings and judges often do not give justice because of monetary gains and selfish desires.
This is incorrect. They forgot the day is coming when they would have to stand before the judge of the whole earth to give account of their stewardship. Brethren, not only the political or traditional leaders that are guilty of this sin, even some leaders of the Church are biased and supportive of dishonesty. Be careful, because the Lord has put you in a position of leadership, not because of your ability or wisdom, God who gives you the position, will give you the power to be truthful not based on prejudice if you ask Him. Therefore,at all times, we should do things that will glorify the name of the Lord.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: God is all-knowing.
PRAYER: Lord God, I beg You to help me use Your wisdom in judging aright in the name of Jesus, Amen.
1 KINGS 3:16-22 (Message Bible).
16 The very next thing, two prostitutes showed up before the king.
17 The one woman said, "My master, this woman and I live in the same house. While we were living together, I had a baby.
18 Three days after I gave birth, this woman also had a baby. We were alone--there wasn't anyone else in the house except for the two of us.
19 The infant son of this woman died one night when she rolled over on him in her sleep.
20 She got up in the middle of the night and took my son--I was sound asleep, mind you!--and put him at her breast and put her dead son at my breast.
21 When I got up in the morning to nurse my son, here was this dead baby! But when I looked at him in the morning light, I saw immediately that he wasn't my baby."
22 "Not so!" said the other woman. "The living one's mine; the dead one's yours." The first woman countered, "No! Your son's the dead one; mine's the living one." They went back and forth this way in front of the king.
