ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET FRIDAY 18TH AUGUST, 2023
TEXT: JOHN 1: 43 - 51
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD.
There are many people today who say that Jesus is not the Son of God because the God did not marry. Humanly we can say that, but let us not forget that God has the power to do whatever He wants. In the Bible the Lord God testified that, Jesus Christ, is His beloved Son, we should listen to Him (Matt. 3: 17; Mark 1: 11; Luke 3: 22), because He has the means of salvation.
In today's study, Jesus calls Philip to follow him, and Philip obeys, finds Nathanael and says to him. "... We have found him... Jesus of Nazareth." Brothers and sisters, it is good to imitate the attitude of Philip, who did not hold back from giving to others what he got. If we are true followers of Christ, we must seek the salvation of our brothers who are not yet saved.
Nathanael, whom Philip told about Jesus, gave a good testimony that Jesus was the Son of God (vs. 49). This is what every true believer in Christ should do. The Lord was pleased with Nathanael and said to him. "... the true israel, in whom there is no guile" (vs. 47). Nathanael is sure to be praised for his testimony of Jesus.
Here is the question, on the day of your encounter with Christ Jesus will He praise you?
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: How will Your encounter with Christ be like?
PRAYER: Lord God, I beg You, give me courage to bear witness to Your deeds and words, Amen.
JOHN 1: 43 - 51 (AMP).
43 The next day Jesus desired and decided to go into Galilee; and He found Philip and said to him, Join Me as My attendant and follow Me.
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the same city as Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip sought and found Nathanael and told him, We have found (discovered) the One Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote about—Jesus from Nazareth, the [legal] son of Joseph!
46 Nathanael answered him, [Nazareth!] Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip replied, Come and see!
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him and said concerning him, See! Here is an Israelite indeed [a true descendant of Jacob], in whom there is no guile nor deceit nor falsehood nor duplicity!
48 Nathanael said to Jesus, How do You know me? [How is it that You know these things about me?] Jesus answered him, Before [ever] Philip called you, when you were still under the fig tree, I saw you.
49 Nathanael answered, Teacher, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!
50 Jesus replied, Because I said to you, I saw you beneath the fig tree, do you believe in and rely on and trust in Me? You shall see greater things than this!
51 Then He said to him, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you all, you shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man!
