ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET THURSDAY 17TH AUGUST, 2023
TEXT: JOHN 1: 35-42
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: QUESTION BRINGS UNDERSTANDING.
Yesterday in our study, we were advised to witness for Jesus, as John did, now that we have the opportunity. John recalled his earlier testimony, "To the Lamb of God." The is a fact, and the evidence prompted two of his disciples (John) who heard, followed Jesus, and asked where he was staying. Jesus was not offended by the question.
No, he did not drive them away, he said to them, "Come and see" (verse 39). The disciples obeyed Him, just as we should do. That is, we should be as eager to know Jesus as the Disciples and be obedient and spend time with Him. Because in Christ Jesus there is peace and happiness. Jesus, now, is preparing for His Kingdom where all who believe in Him will be with Him forever.
As He said to these disciples, "Come and see." He is now ready to show us where He wants us to be, that is, in the hearts of those who believe in Him. Brethren, today if we open our hearts to Him, He will come in and live with us, we will find Him to be a true and faithful friend, A friend who will not abandon or embarrass us. Today we must not follow His enemy, Satan, who is not a friend, but a thief, deceiver, and destroyer.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The heart is the seat of God.
PRAYER: Lord God, I beseech You, turn my heart to Your abode in Jesus, Amen.
JOHN 1: 35-42 (NIV)
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.
41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).
42And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).
