ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET WEDNESDAY 16TH AUGUST, 2023
TEXT: JOHN 1: 26-34
SPIRITUAL FOCUS: WITNESS FOR JESUS WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME.
Two days ago, we heard John gave a very good testimony about the Word, Christ Jesus. He also appealed to those who were with him, "behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" (vs. 29). This is a complete picture of what happened when the Lord brought the children of Israel out of captivity.
At the Passover, a lamb was slaughtered so that the Israelites would be free because of the blood. On the cross, Jesus called the Lamb by John, shed His blood for the salvation of the world. This shedding of blood gives us the opportunity to speak to God, that is, to pray as His children (vs. 12). Sadly, most of Christ's followers do not know this.
Therefore, whenever they are in trouble, they would resort to witchcraft and sorcery. This is a big mistake. Not to be overlooked is the fact that Christ Jesus when he shed His blood, it was not only to took away our sins but also to forgive us.
Therefore, we should tell the lost about this great salvation that has come to them. They must believe in Him for eternal life. This is the work that He has left for us to do until His return.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: There is power in the blood of Jesus.
PRAYER: Lord God, give the courage to bear Your name to the lost so that they too can repent and have eternal life, Amen.
JOHN 1: 26-34 (NLT).
26 John told them, “I baptize with water, but right here in the crowd is someone you do not recognize.
27 Though his ministry follows mine, I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandal.”
28 This encounter took place in Bethany, an area east of the Jordan River, where John was baptizing.
29 Jesus, the Lamb of God
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30 He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’
31 I did not recognize him as the Messiah, but I have been baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.”
32 Then John testified, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him.
33 I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
34 I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.”
