ERCC DEVOTIONAL (TEKAN) DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET MONDAY 17TH JULY, 2023

TEXT:OBADIAH 15 – 18

SPIRITUAL FOCUS: THE LORD WILL JUDGE EDOM.

We have heard a few days ago that the people of Edom sinned. The same was true of the other nations, namely, Syria, Philistia, Tyre, Ammon, and Moab (Amos 1: 3-15; 2: 1-3). It is therefore imperative that they be judged. 

Prophet Obadiah in today's reading shows us that on the Day of the Lord, no human being will be able to escape the wrath of God no matter what his status or prestige is, except those who fear the Lord and do His will. That is, there is no way for human beings to avoid God's judgment if they live not according to His will. The prophet repeats, the words of the Lord through Amos, "Even though they hide themselves under the sea, I will cause the sea monster to tear them apart.” (9: 3). 

Brethren, this is a frightening statement that we should seriously consider because the sin of the Edomites God determined to punish them. Even today, we as Edomites do sin, but we also know that today is the day the Lord has given us to adjust our lives, to repent, and to stop doing bad things. Because the day of the Lord is coming, the day all the ungodly will be exposed. While the righteous will inherit the kingdom of God, the wicked will be put to shame and disgraced. 

Therefore, we need to obey the Lord so that on the day of His coming we can go forth and jump like young calves that have been released from the pen house (Malachi 4: 3). A day of rejoicing, a day of rest from all adversity and separation from the calamities of the world for those who trust in the Lord and live godly lives.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I ask you to keep reminding me that, the kingdoms and powers of this world will pass away, and the need trust in You alone, Amen.
